Accommodation

This section is basically in two parts:-

Below you will find suggested ways to keep the cost of accomodation down.

Secondly, if you look at the menu on the left you will find appraisals of accommodation that has been stayed at by some of our readership.

This list will be constantly updated as the authors and contributors visit new resorts.

The publishers reserve the right to edit all contributions where necessary. Views expressed in reviews of Accommodation are those of the contributors and not necessarily those of the publishers.

CHEAPER ACCOMMODATION

As mentioned in 'Where To Stay' in the 'Experienced' section, it works out much cheaper if you stay in accommodation that requires travelling to the slopes.

The most expensive properties are always situated right next to the ski slopes and/or convenient for the nightlife.

So, if you are willing to travel either a few miles by car (or the regular free ski bus that most resorts now provide) you will see the prices tumble.

Some of the recommended budget hotels that can be found in the valleys are Formule One, Village, Premiere Classe, Hotel-BB and Quick Palace (mainly in France).

As an example, in mid January 2011 you could stay a night in a F1 hotel in Albertville for £28.14  - and that's for 3 people!

Read 'Where To Stay' in the Experienced section for more expansive information.

Cheap Hotel

For Cheap Hotel accommodation check out our 'Find a Deal directory (diagonally above in lefthand column).

For example Alpharooms are offering room only accommodation at the Carlit Hotel in Font Romeu in January 2011 for £133 per person (quad room) to £187 (twin room). The hotel is approx 4k from the slopes and each room is ensuite with Satellite TV,etc.
Guests can also make use of the jacuzzi, sauna, steam room etc. (the swimming pool is outdoors and only available in the summer !)

For more extensive information on accomodation read "Where to Stay" in the Experienced section in the L/H column.

Cheap apartments, chalets, farmhouses and village houses that accommodate from 2 to 20+ skiers can also be found in Ski Horizon, Interhome, Cheznous, Ownersdirect, Welcomecottages, Holidays-france, France-rental, and Lastvilla.

Interhome offers six apartments (sleeps 4) in different Austrian resorts for less than £280.
Typical of these is the 1 bedroomed apartment in the Zugspitzarena in Bilbach (Tyrol) which is only 100 metres from the lifts and 300 metres from the village centre.
Ski Horizon offer 3* Chalet accommodation for 4 in Chamonix - 200 m from the slopes - from £357 for a week in December, and a 2* apartment in the town centre but 2km from slopes for £221 on Jan 8th 2011.
