Dry Ski Slopes in Britain
Skiing on snow is much easier than on an a plastic artificial slope !!!
So, if you are lucky enough to live near one of the new, numerous Snow Domes where you can ski indoors (not cheaply) on man made snow - lucky you ! Use it.
Similarly, if you live near one of the natural snow pistes in Scotland, The Pennines or Wales (is there any in Ireland?) Great !
Unfortunately, due to our low lying mountains and variable weather, the days that you can learn in Britain are very limited.
Luckily, though, most people in Britain live within reasonable driving distance of a Artificial Slope.
There are more than 70 Dry Ski Slopes in Britain. They are great places to learn the basics before hitting the European slopes, even though they are not as easy to ski on as snow.
Prices vary around the country; the cheapest for ‘taster’ lessons being £10 for one hour up to a course of 4 x 2 hour lessons for £100 - included in this is an extra 4 hours of free skiing. Once you feel quite competent (or in some cases, have passed a test) to ski on your own, rates for practice sessions vary from £6.50 (Juniors) for 2 hours, up to £14.45 per hour for adults at peak time.
Typical of these are the dry ski slopes at:-
The Ackers at Small Heath in Birmingham.
They provide dry skiing and snowboarding lessons (as well as a multitude of other activities) and also recreational skiing facilities. For more details check out their website on www.ackers-adventure.co.uk
Similar arrangements for skiing can be found at the Llandudno Ski Slope, which is part of the John Nike group that have centres all around the country. Contact them at www.llandudnoskislope.co.uk
