| Does anyone have any top tips on keeping fit for the up coming season? (ok I mean my 1 week trip) . I'm not really a gym fan but I do enjoy swimming and the odd bike ride. Will this be enough? What does everyone else do to prevent the 1st day aches & pains? |

Hi Cathy,
Sorry it took so long to reply to this one but have spent most of summer quite ill (fortunately picking up now) and then to make matters worse my computer crashed so that had to have new hard drive which in itself has caused all sorts of problems.
Thanks for pointing out that you needed advice on ski fitness.
I've written an article on this and it will be posted in a new section of website as soon as I can get my web designer to sort out last couple of glitches, - otherwise I will email it to you personally.
Thanks for the tip (and for being one of our regular contributors) _________________ Best Wishes

Hi Cathy,
hope you received the personal email that I sent to the address that you provided when you joined the SOS ski club.
In case you haven't (& for the info of other readers) I've just jotted this down to point out that I've written two articles on Ski Fitness, in both the Beginners & Experienced sections of the Site.
Hope they are helpful.
I'm hoping to get away in January - so I've just completed my second day of them. They are OK for me hope they are for you.
Any queries (from you or other readers) regarding them, please get in touch thro this Forum, and I'll respond asap. _________________ Best Wishes

Thanks for the email, found them a good set of exercises - although I have not followed it to the letter as work etc has got in the way, but they are great reps and I feel better for doing it.
That said this time next week I'll be in Kitzbuhel so will let you know how I got on.
Happy sliding to one and all |

Thanks for post Cathy, forgot to mention in article that any exercise that you are doing (ie cycling & swimming) are good for you health and body in general, but will not stop the first day aches when skiing. This is because you are using different muscles when you ski, so exercises have to be specific. Thus more lateral movements of legs crouching & twisting exercises.
Nomally first day aches tend to be - nfront of thighs from holding a crouch posion all day, - arms (if you use a lot of tows) and inner thighs from side stepping, snowploughing, etc.
So these muscle groups need exercises specifically for them (or otherwise ski perfectly parallel all week, only use chair lifts, and dont sidestep back up the slope for the glove you dropped !!!) _________________ Best Wishes
