Snow in Britain

Indoor Snow

Snow to ski on is a luxury in Britain.  The lucky few live close to a Snow Dome which provides indoor artificial 'man made' snow inside what is technically a giant refigerator, decorated internally to look  'alpine'. There are currently at least Four Snowdomes in Britain with plans afoot to build more.
Whilst this snow is much better to learn on than the nylon of dry slopes the downside is that they are much pricier.
Highly recommended though, if you can afford it.
Otherwise learn the basic stuff on a dry slope then go to a snowdome for a bit of a treat and adventure!!!

Prices for Junior Ski Lessons vary from £13.50 for 45 mins to £28 for Adults.

Practice sessions go from £11 for 1 hour for Juniors off peak to £23 for adults at peak time.

Contact is the same as for Dry Ski Slopes above, just enter “Snow Domes” into your internet search engine or:

Outdoor Snow

Unfortunately our problem in Britain is that we are low lying. Our highest 'mountains' are barely 1000 metres (just over 3000 feet) so are too small to hold the snow for very long in a temperate climate like ours. There are several outdoor ski slopes in the North of England that provide spasmodic skiing opportunities due to the vagaries of the weather and there are more extensive ski resorts in Scotland which suffer similar problems.
Being more northerly and slightly higher, the Scottish slopes tend to be more functional than their English counterparts but are still so unreliable that it is not worth booking a holiday there well in advance. If you are going to risk skiing there it is probably better to weekend it once you have established the snow conditions.
Also with the cuurent abundance of cheap holidays and budget flights it is now often more expensive to drive to Scotland than it is to travel to Europe to ski.
Unless you actually live north of the border it is uneconomical and unreliable to consider this option.
